The Bezzera Cycling team evolved out of our passion for cycling and our love of coffee. It seems that especially on our weekend rides, would would always end up stop of a caffeine fix somewhere during our training. But Tony’s mantra has always been “there’s no coffee stops in a race” so often we would push on back to Tony’s place for a brew where his Bezzera machine would be warmed up and ready. And that machine really pumps out some great coffee! We were so impressed by the quality of the shots coming out of Tony’s Bezzera that we started to look a bit more into Bezzera machines and we discovered that Bezzera Australia had recetly gone down the path of designing and making some rather different cycling kit. So we approached Bezzera coffee machines to see if they would be interested in sponsoring us as a team. The idea of racing as a team for a coffee machine manufacturer held great appeal for us all as it combined two of our great passions, coffee and cycling. So here we are, 4 hairy leg cycling hacks, racing in Masters C. There’s not much glory in this category, but it’s fun pushing ourselves to achieve greater results. But the one thing we’ve realised is that we’ve got a lot to learn about bike racing and it doesn’t matter how strong or fit you are, you’ve got to know the game.

Our inaugural open race as a team was at the 2011 Battle on the Border held on the Tweed Coast where we enjoyed the feel of racing as part of a team rather than individual riders. While we didn’t really have it together enough to employ any team tactics, it was great just seeing the other Bezzera riders in the bunch, knowing that they were there.

We believe that it’s the guys like us- bicycle racing for the sheer enjoyment of the sport and the fitness it gives us in our middle years- that will share our passion for great espresso at home with a Bezzera coffee machine.
